Born in Portland, OR, Errick Johnson spent his childhood with his mother in Birmingham, AL. Music has always been a part of his life, joining the youth choir at age 13 with his cousins. Exposure to a wide variety of music was gained during his high school years at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, where he majored in Math and Science. He first experienced jazz music as a freshman in college at Auburn University, auditioning for the vocalist position of the Auburn Knights Orchestra. Since then, his musical résumé has grown tremendously.
As a soloist and/or keyboardist with numerous bands and musicians, he has performed at hundreds of weddings, receptions, festivals, and the like. In fall of 2006, he auditioned for American Idol Season 6 in Birmingham, AL. Building relationships with such contestants as Jordan Sparks, Blake Lewis, and Chris Richardson, he became a semifinalist in the Top 40 of that season. After that experience, he continued building his vocal jazz chops, performing with local jazz celebrities throughout the Birmingham area, including Ona Watson, trumpeter Bo Berry, and bassist Cleve Eaton. Errick was also highlighted during the famous “Function at the Junction” Jazz Festival at Tuxedo Junction in Birmingham, AL, in the summer of 2008. Since then, he has gone back to school, currently finishing his undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering, while working as Vocalist and Business Manager for the Auburn Knights Orchestra with occasional solo performances around the Auburn/Opelika area.
