Stewart started playing drums at the age of ten, taking lessons with various teachers for a couple of years. At sixteen, he began to take the instrument more seriously as he began studying under Jon Reich. Over the next several years, Stewart discovered jazz and developed a love for the music and great drumming icons such as Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Louis Bellson, Max Roach, Sonny Payne, and Butch Miles.
Stewart is a versatile drummer, having performed over the years with various jazz bands, rock bands, churches, and theatrical productions. A Georgia Tech alumnus, Stewart is a former member of the Georgia Tech Jazz Ensemble and the Cobb Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, Stewart teaches privately as his schedule allows and is a member of the Percussive Arts Society.
